BioSouth to pioneer solid-state fermentation in a first for New Zealand

The fungus Beauveria bassiana is naturally occuring in the wild and acts as an effective control on many pests, from insects that attack commercial crops through to something as timely as bed bug infestations in major hotels.

With a containerised turnkey solution for solid state fermentation, BioSouth is able to bring production onstream quickly and effectively, meeting strong international demand. Should the initial trial run prove successful, the company will look to expand production through multiple containers.

"BioSouth stands to be the largest solid-state fermenter in the world, and that is great news for New Zealand and the development of the bioeconomy onshore," said BioSouth's Chief Science Officer, Prof. Travis Glare.

The company's expansion to include solid-state fermentation capability is seen as a necessary progression to meet growing demand across its interntional customer base.

BioSouth is a New Zealand company working in the contract manufacture of microbial products, with a global customer base and a market presence in New Zealand, Australia, North America and Brazil.
