BioSouth moves to new premises and commences construction of its new facility

BioSouth, Australasia’s precision fermentation and scale-up contract manufacturer, recently moved to new premises. Born out of Lincoln University in 2020, the company had outgrown its original home by mid-2023 and started looking for its own space where it could set about building a dedicated facility to meet growing demand for its services.

In November of this year BioSouth took possession of its own space in the suburb of Wigram in Christchurch, New Zealand. The company has now committed itself to a major development project that will see it bring thousands of litres of processing capacity online by the end of May 2024. When completed the facility will be the largest of its type in Australia and New Zealand.

BioSouth’s new facility will include New Zealand’s first PC2-certified laboratory and processing facility. This will be of tremendous value to industry and to the country as a whole.

The facility will not only help BioSouth support its customers in their scale-up and commercial scale production, but also play an important role in education and training. With pressure already coming on local universities to provide their post-graduate students with facilities for their own research and study, BioSouth will be able to assist with access for students and staff.

“The universities are unable to meet the growing demand for hand-on access to microbial fermentation infrastructure with the resources they currently have available, so it’s great that BioSouth can assist” said the company’s chief science officer, Professor Travis Glare.
